TEACHERS' PERCEPTIONS ON THE USE OF WHATSAPP IN APEAKING ACTIVITIES: A CASE STUDY AT SMP ISLAM AZ ZAHRA 2 PALEMBANG.--
The aim of this study was to find out teachers’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in speaking activities at SMP Islam Az Zahra 2 Palembang. The participants of this study were two English teachers taken by using total sampling method. The qualitative method, spesifically case study research design, was used in this study. The data obtained from interview were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The results of this research showed that there was benefit and some limitations of WhatsApp in speaking activities. The benefit found (a) WhatsApp made the teachers easier to share speaking materials by using WhatsApp; Meanwhile, the limitations found (b) WhatsApp did not build the students’ confidence in speaking English; (c) WhatsApp did not promote students independence in learning speaking; (d) WhatsApp did not create enthusiast atmosphere in learning process among students; (e) WhatsApp made the students became less active in learning English; and (f) WhatsApp did not make the students pay attention in learning English.
