THE CORRELATION BETWEEN UNDERGRADUATE EFL LEARNERS' SELF-ESTEEM AND SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT AT UIN RADEN FATAH PALEMBANG.--
This research is talking about “ The Correlation between Undergraduate EFL Learners’ Self-Esteem and Speaking Achievement at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang”. The objectives of this study were to investigate the possible correlation and the influence between students’ self-esteem and speaking achievement. The population of the study was 550 active undergraduate EFL students of the English Education study program of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang in the academic year 2021–2022. The sample of this study was the fourth semester students by using the purposeful sampling method. The total sample of this study was 115 students. The data were collected by using the end semester examination learners’ speaking score and self-esteem questionnaire ready made by Gustaman (2015) to measure the undergraduate EFL learner’s self-esteem that containing 20 items were administreted to the participants by using google form. The collected data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment and regression analyses and computerized with SPSS 25 to determine the relationship and influence between self-esteem and speaking achievement. The result showed that there was a significant positive correlation between students’ self-esteem and speaking achievement. The correlation coefficient, or r-obtained, was (.287). It was higher than r-table (.183) at p = (0.002)was higher than (0.05). Besides, there was also an influence of self-esteem toward speaking achievement with R-square (.082) or about 8.2%. Based o the data above, writer concludes that the H1 is accepted and H0 rejected it means that, there were correlation and influence between students self-esteem and speaking achievement at undergraduate EFL learner at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang.
