The purpose of this study was to find out students’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in reading activities at SMK Ethika Palembang. The participants of this study were six students of SMK Ethika Palembang taken by using purposeful sampling, specifically maximal variation technique. This study used qualitative research with a case study to find the perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in reading activities. In collecting data, the researcher used interview through openended questions. The data were analysed by thematic analysis technique. The result of this study were based on interviews concluded that there were advantages and disadvantages on the use of WhatsApp in reading activities, as follow: (1) easier and faster to get informations, (2) useful and affordable learning application, (1) easy to do cheating, (2) redundant message within the group.
