TEACHER'S ELICITATION TECHNIQUES IN SPEAKING CLASS OF ELEVENTH GRADE AT MA AL-FATAH PALEMBANG

This study was focused on discussing about Teachers’ elicitation techniques in speaking class. The purpose of this research is to find out the types of elicitation techniques used by English teacher in speaking class and the reasons of using types of elicitation techniques by the English teacher in speaking class. This research used qualitative and case study as the research design. This study was conducted at MA Al-Fatah Palembang with an English teacher as the participants taken who taught of eleventh grade in the school by using purposeful sampling. Moreover, the collecting data used observations in the form of observational checklist and face to face interviews through open-ended questions. The result of this study indicated that types of elicitation techniques used by the English teacher in speaking class of eleventh at MA Al-Fatah Palembang consisted of inform, confirm, and clarify. Then, the teachers' reasons of using types of elicitation techniques in speaking class were because of some points namely making students get involved actively in learning activities, generating teacher's various teaching methods, and anticipating misunderstanding about what students conveyed.
