THE PATTERNS OF TEACHERS'S TALK IN EFL CLASSROOM: A STUDY AT MTS AUTHANIYAH PENGGAGE MUSI BANYUASIN.--



The aim of this study was to find out the patterns of teacher’s talk that used by English teacher in EFL classroom at MTs Authaniyah Penggage Musi Banyuasin. The qualitative research method with a case study approach was applied in this study. The participants in this study were an English teacher and one class of eighth grade students. Observation and interview as analysis were conducted to gain in-depth information, while thematic analysis was used to analyze and describe the collected data. Triangulation was used to assess the trustworthiness of the research results. The results indicated that the patterns of teacher’s talk that used by English teacher in EFL classroom at MTs Authaniyah Penggage Musi Banyuasin consisted of various kinds in three activities namely pre-activities, whist-activities and post-activities. In pre-activities, the researcher found three patterns namely instructing, questioning and eliciting. In whilst-activity, the researcher found eight patterns namely instructing, questioning, explaining, eliciting, checking, correcting, reading aloud and giving feedback praising.
