The objective of this study is to find out about EFL student teachers’ challenges in translating Indonesian to English and English to Indonesian of narrative texts on Translation Subject at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. This research used qualitative case study approach. In order to gather the data, the researcher did interview to four EFL student teachers of 2018, and the researcher used thematic analysis to analyze the data. According to the results, it was found that there were four challenges faced by all participants. All of students felt challenged in translation process because they were lack of vocabulary in target language, limitations due to grammatical differences between the source language and the target language, pragmatic problems, and culture-specific concepts.
