This study aims to determine the motives behind women who often do underhand marriages (a case study in Suka Moving Village, Rambutan District, Banyuasin Regency). This research is a qualitative research with a case study approach that aims to describe the empirical reality behind the phenomenon in depth, detail and thoroughly. Based on the findings of the study which showed that the motives of the three subjects (IB, IY, D) often did underhand marriages, namely the loneliness motive, the motive for wanting to get status quickly from widow to husband, and the motive for economic needs. There are various factors behind the three subjects often carry out underhand marriages. These factors are divided into two, namely internal factors and external factors. Internal factors consist of a sense of loneliness felt by the subject when not married, while external factors, namely, firstly the status of a married husband and the absence of permission from the second first wife, the absence of support or the blessing of the third parent, the absence of an official divorce certificate from previous marriage. However, according to the community, underhand marriages are generally considered commonplace in Suka Moving Village. Keywords: Motive of marriage, Woman
