STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS ON THE USE OF WHATSAPP INI WRITING ACTIVITIES: A CASE STUDY AT SMP JIHADIYAH PALEMBANG.--

This study was intended to find out the students’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in writing activities at SMP Jihadiyah, Palembang. This study used a qualitative research with a case study to find out the students’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in writing activities. This study was conducted at SMP Jihadiyah, Palembang with six of the students as the participant by using purposeful sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher used interview through open ended questions. The data were analyzed by using thematic analysis technique. The results of this study based on interviews showed that there were five perceptions the use of WhatsApp in writing activities, as follows: a) WhatsApp group allowed students for discussion, b) Easy to use in sharing information, c) Hard to understand the material, d) The lack of students participation in WhatsApp Group, e) Insufficient data connection.
