Compensating for Damages Caused by Wrongful Journalism. E-JOURNAL

The Emarati Constitution guaranteed of freedom of speech whether through speech written or any other expressions allowed by law. Hence, the UAE law on Publication NO. 15 of the year 1980 aimed at organizing Journalism in UAE. However, this Law did not take into consideration the wrongdoing in Journalism and the publication of damages thereto, especially since the damage, caused by Journalism, rapidly cause damages by reaching public knowledge the moment the paper is distributed. Therefore, we concluded that giving the victim the right to reply gives him/her an effective and quick means that equals the wrongdoing and its public publication. It is also noticeable that the legislator, in this law, kissed some of the issues that can be considered as main basis for journalism in order for it to aid in building and developing society in accordance with modern life needs. This thesis aims at shedding the light on and analyzing Emeriti Legislation, in order to explore its weakness in addressing the issue of compensating for the damages caused by wrongful journalistic publication, which demands effective methods, similar to the ones adopted by contemporary legislation. Hoping that the legislator takes the adequate steps to reform all this through a new legislation for journalism, written or electronic, which is recently widespread.
