Vocational teacher education research: issues to address and obstacles to face. e-jurnal
The purpose of this study was to examine different aspects in research on Vocational Teacher Education (VTE) through the review of relevant international literature. These aspects included issues that need to be investigated, namely, the effect of national development movements on VTE, the absence of theoretical frameworks of VTE, the relationship with developmental innovations of Vocational Education (VE), requirements of special needs students in VE on teacher education, legislations of VTE, the current situation of VTE programs, VTE in multicultural environments, status of vocational teacher educators, approaches of VTE, and the content of VTE. The study also discussed obstacles to VTE research including naming of VTE programs, and financing of research on VTE. The study reviewed most recent studies in VTE, clarified the focus of these studies, and discussed the implied future trends in research to establish links that could benefit from literature relating to teacher education of other subjects, to establish theoretical frameworks for VTE, to undertake evaluative and comparative studies for programs, and follow-up studies for graduates of VTE programs, in addition to the approaches to equip VE teachers with teaching competencies to teach in multicultural environments and to deal with special needs students.
