The Internet has given rise to new forms of organizing work and new ways of doing business. The operation of virtual and network organizations that represent new forms of organizing relies to a large extent on the Internet. Similarly, the Internet makes possible new ways of doing business, such as e-commerce and e-marketing. As an important part of the Internet, the World Wide Web shapes these new ways of organizing and provides impetus for organizations to implement e-commerce. This surely is not the sole function of the Web, but it is enough to account for the growing importance of a Web site for an organization.
