Sunnah has a significant place in fiqh literature, as the basis of fiqh relied upon The Prophet
himself who knew and applied the purpose of fiqh best. For this reason, the mujtahid imams
applied to the sunnah after the Quran for derivational (istinbat) judgment in religious deeds.
However, the mujtahid imams had a divergence of opinion in acknowledging some of the
narrations by the Prophet and acting with them. On the basis of the divergences of opinion
relies on the k̲h̲abar al-wāḥid, which constitutes the majority of the sunnah. Because, the
k̲h̲abar al-wāḥid makes no sense according to the majority of the procedurs in addition to
containing the possibilities of lies, falsity and delusion in terms of structure, since its
accuracy is made by assumption. In this aspect, k̲h̲abar al-wāḥid is not as strong and binding
as khabar mutawatir, yet represents an assumption of knowledge. Accordingly, the k̲h̲abar alwāḥid is expressed as "it does not require knowledge but assumption does". In the context of
this formulation, the following matter arises: Is it possible to act with the k̲h̲abar al-wāḥid
even though it does not express knowledge? Based on this matter, this study aims to reveal the
argument of the k̲h̲abar al-wāḥid, which is regarded as an assumption, and also discusses
whether it is possible to act with the the k̲h̲abar al-wāḥid, how the sects view it and how this
situation is reflected in the provisions regarding the funeral. Therefore, the subject of this
study is limited to the different conditions imposed by the sects for the arguments of the
k̲h̲abar al-wāḥid and the impacts of these conditions on the provisions- specific to funeral
prayer. As a method, firstly, the procedural works of the related sects were examined in order
to conceptually define k̲h̲abar al-wāḥid, reveal the value of knowledge and to determine the
conditions that the sects adopted with it as an argument. Later, along with this procedural
method adopted by the sects, descendent (branch) books were explored to determine their
place in the subject of funeral aforementioned. With reference to this method, it will be
propounded how the principle adopted by the sects in the procedure is reflected on the issues
of füru, the reason for acting with it despite the assumed knowledge of k̲h̲abar al-wāḥid and
why the sects adopted different provisions as to the funeral
