New Media and Related Concepts: The Problematic of Convergence and Idiomatic Overlap in the Arab Context. E-JOURNAL

In the Arab world, the emerging media phenomena within the digital space are facing a conceptual crisis due to the novelty of these phenomena and the dynamism of their formation, as well as the absence of a unified and reliable reference for idiomatic translation in the region. With the emergence of Web 2.0 and the media's trend towards the social-participatory aspect, the digital space became full of concepts and terminology accompanying the emerging media activities. These phenomena run parallel and intersect within the continuous movement and the rapid development of technology, as this terminological chaos has not affected the specificity of each practice and its features and limits. Thus, the following study aims to define the features of each phenomenon by presenting and discussing some points. They are represented in: first, defining the concept of each term, and secondly, defining the phenomena of new media and their developments, as well as the characteristics of media based on these media of all kinds. This is in order to reach a definition of the concept and scope of each term and to draw the boundaries of each phenomenon with identifying points of intersection and features of the difference between them.
