Shaping communication networks: telegraph, telephone, computer (e-journal)
People and organizations determine the course of the future, not computers. As a form of communication, the Internet can be used by individuals and businesses for good or bad but it cannot influence the direction society chooses to take. The Internet only reflects the society that created it. The development and use of the telegraph and the telephone provide a possible pattern for how the newest form of networked communication, the Internet, will be used in the future.
